Home With Good Airflow

4 Simple Steps You Can Take to Improve Home Airflow

The indoor air quality of your Bethel Park, PA, home affects your health. But if your home has bad airflow, your air quality is likely not that great either. There are four simple steps you can take to improve the airflow in your home.

Change the HVAC Filter Regularly

A dirt air filter blocks the airflow that needs to flow through your HVAC system. An air filter can usually last for up to 90 days before you need to replace it. But this also depends on how often you use your HVAC system or if you have pets.

Keep Vents Open and Clear of Obstructions

Items like furniture, rugs, or curtains can block your vents and reduce airflow. Walk around your home and make sure nothing is covering the vents. You can also check to make sure the vents are fully open.

Use Ceiling Fans or Open a Window

Ceiling fans can improve airflow by circulating the air in a room, making it feel cooler in the summer and distributing warm air more evenly in the winter. Portable or table fans can also help with circulating air. And you can move them from room to room based on your airflow needs.

If you don’t have any ceiling fans or portable fans, opening windows when the temperature outside warrants it can allow air to flow through your home. But avoid opening windows if your air conditioner or heater is currently in operation.

Schedule HVAC Maintenance Routinely

Keeping your HVAC system running efficiently will ensure conditioned air flows freely to every part of your home without strain. We recommend scheduling air conditioning maintenance in the spring and heating maintenance in the fall.

Good airflow plays a role in your comfort and health. Without good airflow, your indoor air quality suffers, too. Contact Woodruff and Smith Heating and Cooling, Inc. today to learn more ways to improve your airflow.
